Palm Sunday

Thanks for another productive Holy Week rehearsal last Saturday! Even with some folks out, we made nice headway on Good Friday & Easter Sunday music. Mass also came together quite well with no real issues. I would say we ended Lent on a high note. Check out the audio here (**link removed**).
Holy Week 2023 kicks off this weekend with Palm Sunday. Huge thanks for putting up with the extra emails & rehearsals -- between a new pastor and celebrating (what feels like) our first 'normal' Easter in three years, there's been much to sort out. Looking forward to some great music!
A reminder that we're meeting again at 3 PM this Saturday, 04/01. We'll continue working on the same pieces, adding in accompaniment & instrument parts on several. I'd also like to look at Alleluia! Give the Glory & Whom Do You Seek?. A few Sundays choir members may be joining us. Stay tuned!
Also note that three pieces for Palm Sunday will be sung for Good Friday as well: My God, My God, Were You There? & Behold the Cross. We'll cover these during regular 4 PM rehearsal.
Our Entrance song, The King of Glory, will be done after the Blessing of Palms, and as part of the Procession of Palms. We'll probably skip verse 5 since it's not quite Easter yet :-).
Were You There? will be sung as the Acclamation (in place of the one in Mass of Remembrance). The first verse will be sung before the Gospel reading, with verse 2 & 5 done at pauses in the reading (both near the end). This will be sung a capella in parts; we'll need to be careful about keeping the tempo up.
Jesus, the Lord is one we don't do often. Given the slower tempo, we'll probably only get through 1-2 verses. Like the rest of this week's music, harmonies are welcome :-).
Please take a look at At the Name of Jesus if it's unfamiliar. This is a new piece that we looked at briefly last week. We'll sing the first two verses only, as these are most appropriate for Palm Sunday.
For those singing/playing for Holy Thursday and/or Vigil, rehearsal will be this Sunday, 04/02 at ~11:30 AM (following the 10:15 AM Mass). Details from Joanne went out by email.
Our Easter Sunday 'dress rehearsal' will be on Saturday, 04/08, from 1-3 PM. This has been cleared with the Church Office. We'll go through the entire program & sort out logistics.
Finally, I'm starting to work on music selections for the rest of April. These should be ready in the next couple of weeks. It does look like I'll be out on the 15th, so we'll need to sort out coverage.
That's all for now. Have a good one!
