Songs & Updates for Saturday, May 18, 2019 [updated]

5th Sunday of Easter
Thanks for managing things in my absence last week! I was in New York with Drama students and fellow adult volunteers for a workshop and Broadway musical (Wicked -- definitely worth checking out if you're able).

It sounds like overall, Mass went well and there was some lovely harmony on several pieces. Only a few minor issues cropped up with starting/ending together and tempo. Very much appreciate all of your efforts in pulling together the program, especially with the extra music added for the Anointing. Looking forward to being back this week :-).

Just a few notes on this week's selections: first, we usually try to swing the melody line a bit on They'll Know We Are Christians. This makes the music less 'rigid' and helps it fit better with Jim's guitar part.

For Where Charity and Love Prevail, this is done largely a capella, with voice/instrument parts built up as we go. Don't be afraid to come up with some harmonies if you'd like :-).

We tried adding an a capella ending to Shine, Jesus, Shine last time, which was a fun way to showcase the written harmony. I'd like to do this again.

There's a wedding scheduled for 2:30 PM in the Church. These usually don't cause any issues with practice, but a heads up just in case.

Finally, a reminder that GC3 #939, Behold the Lamb, will likely be programmed as next month's Communion song. Please take a look if unfamiliar. I don't believe we've done this one before.

Ken is out this week.
