Songs & Updates for Saturday, April 13, 2019

Palm Sunday
Thanks for another solid Mass last week! The more subdued selections were a nice change in pace and a good way to transition into Holy Week. The harmonies were excellent as well. Recordings can be found HERE.

Lisa, Ginny, Ken, Bev, Jim and I stuck around afterward to continue work on Easter music. We spent some time on I Will Rise (which is coming together well -- see recordings above), Open the Eyes of My Heart and Who is That Man?.

Our music for April (HERE) has been approved with a couple of minor changes. This includes the programs for Holy Week, so please take a look. The cantor schedule is also ready to go (HERE).

The Diocesan Lenten Penance Service is being held tonight, 04/09, at 7 PM. Please come join in the singing if you're able. Details went out by email.

Keep in mind that the first part of this weekend's Mass will follow a bit of a different format than usual (final songsheet HERE). The liturgy will begin with a silent procession, Blessing of Palms and Gospel reading. After that, we'll sing the Gather song.

Also, in place of the regular Gospel Acclamation, Were You There? will be sung a capella before, during and after the reading of The Passion. We'll need to be careful of timing/entrances. Note that one of the verses has changed from what we've done in the past -- rather than "bowed his head and died..." (which isn't in the book), we'll sing "nailed him to the tree..." instead.

Let's take a few minutes to sort out the confusion on the Lamb of God from last week. We're using the alternate tropes, but are book-ending them with the regular "Lamb of God...' verse.

If you'd be interested in cantoring a verse on Make Us Worthy, let me know. I'll have copies of the arrangement we used last time available.

Singers: don't forget to pick up your black binders for Easter Sunday (feel free to use your own as well). Also stay tuned for a cloud folder with copies of all Easter Sunday sheet music (I may have hardcopies of a few pieces on Saturday).

Finally, there will be practice after Mass from ~7-8 PM. We'll continue work on Easter preludes, but I'd also like to go through some of the Good Friday program if possible. Please plan to stick around, as this will be our final 'regular' practice before dress rehearsals next week.

Thanks again for you patience and dedication as we pull together our Easter programs. Looking forward to a great Holy Week!
