Deacon Bob & t4C

Teens for Christ (t4C) was formed in the fall of 1999 to provide music for a special World Youth Day Mass, which was being hosted by Good Shepherd that year. The group was led by Robert 'Bob' Killoren, a newly-ordained deacon who became heavily involved with the Music Ministry as a leader, guitarist and songwriter.

Under Killoren's leadership, the group continued to play at Masses long after World Youth Day was over. In fact, t4C grew into a major youth ensemble, providing contemporary music at the Saturday Mass well into the 2000s. Teens for Christ even cut a CD in 2002 which continues to serve as a reference for several common songs.

Although t4C no longer exists and most of its members have long since left the Parish, its music is still an important and influential part of our repertoire. Several adaptations of Spirit & Song tunes have become standard arrangements, while some of Killoren's original works continue to be used regularly for special events.

Beyond t4C, Killoren was responsible for introducing the Spirit & Song hymnal to the Parish, which is still in use today. He also established the Sunday 11 AM Choir, and our own ensemble has taken many cues from t4C. In fact, our group could be considered its spiritual successor.

Deacon Bob was with Good Shepherd from 1999-2006, and later served another parish in Ohio from 2006-2018. Following a stroke, he passed away unexpectedly on February 5, 2018. A Memorial Mass was celebrated on August 19, 2018.

Deacon Bob will always be remembered for the huge impact he had in the early days of our Music Ministry. Without him, we wouldn't be where we are today.
